TDF

Every summer when the Tour winds down and hits the Champs I get bit bummed out. Or shall i say a touch of melancholia. Heres the thing, i barely even like road cycling or time trials or
France for that matter. I dont like the advertising, the big bike companies and big sponsors (leaky gas) nor the hype about the comeback guy from texas. What i will miss is the excitement the bike shop customers had every day when they asked if i saw 'todays stage'. The talk about who is looking good and who is thrown out cause of some banned substance ( Boonen) The two 60 year old businessmen who stopped in after their lunch next door and were raving about the
coverage this year. I hate hearing about crashes yet i was held captive listening to Mikos description of Jens Voigh high speed contact with the ground. It 30 days of bike nerd bliss smack in the middle of what always seems a busy boring summer for me here in the philly metro. I will miss it and i want to shout out to my pal Gus because the only stage i saw was in Hd on his big flat screen last night because i dont have a tv or cable at home.
Colorful lycra bike shorts and yellow jerseys..... leave em in France please.

There will always be room in my heart for bright colored lycra. The sponsor crap is soo annoying, almost as annoying as the Lance hype. But that doesn't stop me from watching and dreaming about riding someday in the Alps.
